NextGen Civic Leader Badge

Why get involved?

The University of Washington expects our graduates to be active, informed and impactful community members that contribute to civic health. The NextGen Civic Leader Badge recognizes your commitment to developing skills, knowledge, and attitudes that prepare you to lead your community.

What to expect?

Earn the Badge by documenting your civic health activities and reflecting on key student experiences. To earn the Badge, you must log 250 points on the Civic Health Scorecard and participate in a significant civic leadership or community engagement experience through a Centerpiece Activity.

What is a Centerpiece Activity?

  • A significant commitment to an organization, experience, or issue area.
  • Centerpiece Activities must be connected to your experience as a UW student.
    • They do not have to be academic in nature—though many will be!
  • They must integrate reflection and/or mentorship as part of the experience.

Documenting Centerpiece Activities

To document your Centerpiece Activity, you'll submit a brief survey through the CCUW system. Here are the things we'll ask you about in that survey:

  • Title or name of the activity
  • How many hours you spent
  • Who you worked with (organizations and mentors/supervisors)
  • How does it connect to your Husky Experience?
  • How was reflection built in?
  • What are your top take-aways?
  • [Optional] Submitting supporting artifacts

Get started by logging points in the Civic Health Scorecard.
