Spring CELEbration 2024

Welcome! Spring Celebration is a forum for CELE Center and Mary Gates Endowment students to showcase student service, leadership, and activist work conducted in partnership with the community. We are so excited to celebrate all the accomplishments of our CELE Center students and Mary Gates Scholars.

  • Showcase your reflections and connections you've made as a volunteer, intern, student leader, activist, tutor, etc. Student participants will be able to select from up to four different standard modalities for their presentation. If you are part of a program that requires participation, there may be limits on which modalities you are able to select. Please see the Presentation Formats reference sheet for more information.

  • Group registration: Presentations may be group projects. Only one person from your group must submit this registration from and include the UW emails/netIDs of their group members. 

  • Community partner and mentor recognition: In your registration, you may recognize- a mentor, community partner, instructor, adviser or other staff member who has positively impacted your experience. These partners and mentors will be highlighted at Spring Celebration. Recognition statements will be shared at the event in a decorative visual display.

    • What has inspired you to nominate this individual? What impact has this person made on your community engagement or leadership experience? (200-word limit)

Presentation submission

All presentation submissions must be submitted no later than May 15, 2024, 11:59 p.m. When you are ready to submit your presentation, please use the link below:

TABLE TALKS 

Participants must submit a short description of the visual/physical artifact that will accompany you at the table, and guiding questions for conversation. 
CELE Center staff will print your questions and have them ready on your table during your session. Please bring your artifact with you on the day of the event.  

At least eight, no more than 10 guiding questions and a visual artifact plan will be submitted in text boxes on submission form. 

We suggest trying to keep each question 25 words or less. 

LIGHTNING TALKS 

Lightning talks will be five to seven minutes long with three to five minutes for questions and transition (unless otherwise specified by your program staff). Room assignments will be shared with you at check-in on the day of the event.    

Upload slides as a .pptx or .pdf (no Google slides links accepted).

POSTER 

All posters should be formatted to 40 x 32 inches.  We will have foam core boards, clips, and easels for your poster on the day of the event.

Submitted via a link on the form as a .pdf file.

CELE Center & MGE will cover the cost of printing your poster if it is submitted by Monday May 6, 2024, 5:00pm. Any completed posters submitted after May 6, 2024 will result in you needing to personally cover the cost of printing. Students who do not upload their posters by this date must pay their own printing fees (printing fees start around $30+) and coordinate the pick up of their posters from the printer. All POSTERS in PDF format must all be completed and submitted in the general submission link no later than May 15, 2024.

VIDEO 

All video submissions must be between three to six minutes long. Written transcripts and captions are requested for this submission for accessibility. Videos will be played in a designated meeting room for viewing during the event.

Prep and work sessions 

We will be holding work sessions with some of the Spring Celebration planning team for students who would like to work in a collaborative space and receive support as they complete their project. This time can be used for work time to complete your project, practicing presentations, or to answer any questions that may come up during this process.

We will do our best to accommodate all requests but unfortunately cannot guarantee your selection based on capacity restrictions. It will help to submit your presentation earlier if you have a preferred session!
